What’s Next?

I’ve started getting reader reviews/tweets/mail about Ben. Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben. Poor Jenna gets her own book and all anyone cares about is the hot guy. A lot of those questions are around what I’m going to write next (and Ben) and if there will be more Jenna shorts (and Ben) and will I write other genres (if so, will Ben be there?) So, first off…no to that last question: Yes, I write other genres, but no, Ben will not {Read More}

How To Be A Joiner

I am not a joiner. I’m the girl who always feels like if I try to join people are going to be like, Shut up stupid girl and go sit over there in the dirt. Ok, so no one has ACTUALLY said something like that. I was once told a a writer event that everyone in the group standing there was invited to dinner but me… yeah, that stung. Of course, 1/2 the group was like, Sorry, we have plans with {Read More}

Covers… Or, what were they thinking?

Let’s be honest, the phrase “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is tossed around for a reason. And who doesn’t? We all do. You pick a book up because of is cover. Sometimes you put it down because of the cover. Even a great blurb often can’t get a reader past a really bad cover. Now, as an indie writer, I think that holds true even more. How often has a NY published friend cried over her cover to {Read More}

Goodreads, The Thrill Is Gone

So, I thought (as you saw from my earlier posts) that I’d do a Goodreads giveaway. This seemed like a great idea for a bunch of reasons: build interest, connect with people who read what I write, get to give stuff away…. So, off I went. Only, Goodreads won’t let you giveaway your book if it’s only in electronic format. I can’t tell you how surprised I was by this. Honestly, I thought that we’d alllll moved beyond the “real book” {Read More}

First Kisses

My first kiss was from a boy who was — frankly — out of my league and wayyyyy to experienced for me. He was also our school’s rival’s captain. Um, yeah. I mentioned he was really hot, right? Well, he was also Mr. Alpha Guy even way back then. We were on our way to a movie — our first date — and cutting through the parking lot of the mall, when he spun me against a car and kissed {Read More}

First Report

If you’re just joining us, you may not have realized one of the reasons I started this blog was to share from the inside the journey of an author self-publishing her first project. So, it’s been a week (well, just over) and for 99% of that time I was at RWA. It was so hard being there and not sharing my new secret identity as Caitie Quinn, Funny Girl… funny looking girl? Well, something. People talked all week about self-publishing (and {Read More}

Off to RWA!

I’m off to RWA as my other-self… spending time with The Agent, meeting some editors, having a grand old time. I’ll also see if I can sneak down to the Courtny Milan Self-Publishing breakfast. Her short Unlocked (which I read and loved) made it to Amazon’s Romance Bestsellers #1 slot. I’m sure there’s tons she can teach us! I’ll report back when I return! Have a great week everyone (shameless begging plug: check out It’s In His Kiss while I’m {Read More}

IT’S LIVE!!!!

So, this is an announcement AND a discussion post. The announcement: It’s in His Kiss (finally) went live on Amazon today! You can check it out HERE. And here (again, cause I love it so darn much) is the cover: And now the discussion part. I began the posting process Tuesday. Nothing took more than 24 hours. I have seen some discussion on the Kindle Boards about things taking longer than that…. people reporting in that their 24 hour wait {Read More}

Am I Published Yet? ….. How ’bout Now?

So, the cover is done. The formating was borrowed. The edits are in. Everything is ready to go. Can I get a big WOOT? Unfortunately, when I did all this Tuesday, I made a few newbie mistakes. First, my paragraphs would not indent. A friend went in and fixed those. I need to learn how to do it for next time (next time! Exciting words!) Secondly, I put myself through “Draft” three times. Yes. Three. The first time was normal. {Read More}

Surviving RWA 11

Next week RWA is having it’s yearly national conference in NYC. I’m excited for a heck of a lot of reasons (travel, friends, bright lights/big city, stalking local celbrities… ignore that last one) But, as I get ready for all this excitement, there’s a couple lists I need to glance over to get ready and not forget anything. List One: The Packing List (odds and ends) Everyone knows they have to pack clothes and shoes, but what about things you {Read More}
